Curriculum Intent

The study of music and music technology enables pupils to express themselves positively and also gain technical and communication skills along with problem solving and logical thinking.

The subject’s curriculum will ensure that all pupils:

  • Familiarise themselves with the fundamentals of music practice by exploring a variety of instruments and audio processing software used in the creation of popular music.

  • Are exposed to a wide variety of musical styles and genres from the 20th century onwards. Pupils learn how to structurally analyse well known pieces of music in order to enable them to create music within recognised form and structures.

  • Learn how to safely use studio and live sound equipment and the fundamentals of creating a balanced mix.

  • Are given the opportunity to be creative in a safe environment with instant feedback on their musical development.
