Values and Ethos

Vision

Our key aim is to ensure that every child is able to thrive and achieve their full potential, through quality learning experiences. We also ensure that our children are safe, secure and happy during their time with us and endeavour to fully prepare them for their secondary school education and beyond.

To achieve our vision, we will:

  • Encourage all our children and staff to excel and collaborate with one another, to ensure the best outcomes and progress for all.

  • Develop learning communities that work together to improve standards and outcomes for our children, as part of a wider community.

  • Follow our Trauma Informed approach to ensure that each school is a nurturing and reassuring environment which supports children so that they are emotionally ready to learn.

  • Ensure that we remain committed to the following values, inherent within 'The Apex Way' that underpin the way we work: Support, Inspire, Flourish, and Succeed.

Ethos

Apex Specialist Education is committed to improving educational equity. Our school's ethos is embodied through 'The Apex Way'. This framework governs all of our practice across our organisation. The illustration to the right details the overview of the 'Apex Way'; this vision can be found within all aspects of our school; from the environment, to curriculum, to policies.

At the heart of of 'The Apex Way' is a recognition of treating everyone with respect and understanding, to support one another to flourish and succeed. We will enable our children to understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law. The ethos and teaching of our school, which we will make parents aware of, will support the rule of English civil and criminal law and we will not teach anything that undermines it (part of British Values).

British Values

The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy.

The five key British Values are:

  • Democracy

  • The rule of law

  • Individual liberty

  • Mutual respect

  • Tolerance of those of different faiths and belief

Apex Specialist Education embeds British Values into individual subject curriculum studies, during unstructured time, in our regular assemblies and in our daily expectations of students and staff. The document below details how British Values are explicitly mapped within our PSHE curriculum.
